Beechwood B team Tag Rugby Festival – Tuesday 27th January 2015
Beechwood had a fantastic turnout for our B team festival yesterday, hosting 10 teams; Beechwood (1, 2 & 3), Southlake (1, 2 & 3), Oldfield, Aldryngton, The Coombes and Farley Hill. We had Forest School boys refereeing the games who did a brilliant job allowing the games to flow very nicely and communicating well with a good understanding of the rules.
There were some strong performances throughout the tournament With Beechwood 2nd team winning all 4 of their games in group 1 with Yussef Aziz scoring some great tries and Aldryngton winning all 4 in group 2. After the group stages we went straight onto the semi’s, the first semi was Aldryngton v The Coombes which was an incredibly tight game played to a very good standard in the end there was only one try in it with Aldryngton sneaking it 8-7. The second semi was Beechwood v Oldfield, this game was not as close and Oldfield won quite convincingly with some fantastic runs through the middle, excellent support play and capitalising on the space out on the wings. The game finished 8-5 to Oldfield.
This set up for a great final between Aldryngton and Oldfield who had already met in the group stages, it was a very physical match and there were a number of players in both sides who looked like they had experience of playing rugby out of school. In the end Aldryngton finished the competition unbeaten winning the final 7-5. Beechwood 2nd team and The Coombes also played a third and fourth place final which was another very close affair which the Coombes winning 8-7. Overall the tournament ran smoothly and all the teams got at least 5 games which was great to see.
