Foundation Stage Blog – 29 September 2017

The children were very excited about having lunch at school this week and it has been wonderful to see so many friendships developing.

They have been showing increasing independence when making choices about their learning and have begun to share what they know with the Foundation Stage staff. Some children have been exploring magnets outside and during their exploration of what is magnetic and what isn’t they explained “Look I have a magnet, it can stick to things.” When asked “What things does the magnet stick to?”  the children explained “Metal and other magnets.”

During our group times this week the children have started to look at numbers 1-10 and have been challenged to recognise and order them, we have also been playing a variety of circle games to help the children get to know each other, a particular favourite being the ‘Knock, knock who’s there?’ book where the children had to lift a flap in a book and say who was hiding underneath.

The children participated in their first phonics sessions this week, following the Read Write Inc. scheme written by Ruth Miskin. They have enjoyed learning the sounds m, a, s, d, t and will be bringing home sound sheets this weekend to consolidate their learning at home. The children will continue to learn five new sounds each week and will receive sound sheets on a Friday.

Next week the children are in full time 8:35am-3:15pm and will be having their first PE lesson so please can all FS children bring in their PE kits on Monday and leave them in school until Friday.

Please ensure your child has a coat in school every day and it would be wonderful if your child could bring in a pair of wellies in a named carrier bag due to being on the field during their outdoor learning time.
