Beechwood Primary School

Hockey versus Radstock – Tuesday 3 February 2015

On Tuesday afternoon Beechwood fielded two teams to play against Radstock Primary. Radstock were a team that Beechwood defeated in the group stages of the tournament in October, however this was not the case in our fixture last week with the ‘A team’ losing 7-1 and the ‘B team’ Drawing 6-6. It was apparent that the ‘A team’ needed management, as Mr Boseley was away umpiring the B team’s game.

The highlight of the fixture was the appearance of Leo French who was ‘assistant manager’ and it was fantastic to see him getting involved in sport. He listened and learnt about tactics and participated in the team talk, he clearly got lots out of the occasion.

On the pitch for the ‘B team’ our defence clearly had weakness, however the attacking options were impressing with Ollie Long scoring 4 of the 6 goals. It was interesting to see children who were debutants for the team and the year 6s seemed to settle well into the team, it was apparent that they have learnt lots through their roller hockey.

After speaking to the ‘A team’ captain, Jack felt that we lacked shape, and couldn’t keep hold of the ball which resulted in such a score line. The next game will be crucial, if we are to do well in the upcoming tournament.

‘A Team’ – 7-1 Loss (Scorer: Jack Green)

‘B Team’ – 6-6 Draw (Scorers: Ollie Long 4, Alex Routledge 1, Malik Djotni 1)
