Beechwood Primary School

IEB News Update

Dear Parents/Guardians.

We hope you are all well rested after a long hot summer and back in the full swing of the new School year. We wanted to wait until we had some confirmed news on the Academy process as we fully appreciate how important this is to you all.

Frays Academy are carrying out due diligence with the School and Wokingham Local Authority. The application still sits with the Headteachers Board and the final decision and timeline sits with the Regional Schools Commissioner. Whilst we had hoped to give you some news at the end of September, the relevant meeting was put back to October. In the meantime The School and IEB are working hard together to maintain the rapid improvement required by the Ofsted Report.

The IEB would still like formal applications to join the Shadow Governing Body this term, with the potential to become part of the Local Governing Body that will be required to challenge the School in the future. It is your chance as Parents and the Local Community to work with the School and an Academy Trust to make Beechwood a school you want.

If you are interested, please ask for an application form at the school office.
All shadow governors will receive training to be provided both by the local authority and through ‘on-the-job’ training in conjunction with the IEB. Currently, roles within the IEB include:

  • Safeguarding
  • Inclusion
  • Special education needs and disabilities (SEND)
  • Staffing
  • Performance management
  • Statutory compliance
  • Communications
  • Health and safety and premises
  • Quality of teaching and learning, including early years provision
  • Finance

No prior experience is required, although we will look for a balance of skills when forming the local governing body.
Thank you for your continued support in the School.
